The Oregon Association of Vocational Special Needs Personnel is a division of ACTE.

Jazz up your future!

The OAVSNP Special Needs Division of ACTE provides support and information to personnel working with Special Population students to provide leadership in developing a competitive workforce.

OAVSNP members represent professionals who work with young adults with disabilities. Many of them are special educators, transition specialists and vocational counselors. Our members represent specialists who assist young adults make the transition from the school setting to adult life. This includes those students moving on to a postsecondary educational setting or workplace environment.

Lake Oswego School District

 Mocha Math Project

The Mocha Math Project will assist students in using real-life math skills to operate a student run coffee/drink business at Lakeridge High School. 

 

Bandon School District

Contact: Penny Wellbaum

 Bandon High School Student Skills Transition Center/ BHS Bistro

 This program supports students in developing life skills that will benefit them in the future.  The students learn teamwork and cooperation though canning, meal planning/preparation and sewing.  The transition center packages and sells weekly meals, canned goods, and gift baskets.  The transition skills class also designs, sews, and donates baby quilts and blankets to a local pregnancy resource center. 

 

Salem Keizer Public Schools

 Real Hawaiian Ice

 YTP students will have the opportunity to interact with a team, supervisor, and customers.  This program will to help promote customer services skills, community involvement, organization, and real life work experience and build skills to be successful in future employment. 

 

Irrigon School District

 Doggie Treat Business

 This small school based business will sell dog treats at school events and in the community.  This program will help students to increase cooking, math, communication, job, and life skills.  Students will have the opportunity to plan, prepare, pacakage, and sell their own product in order to financially aid in the support the school’s  life skills program. 

 

Springfield Public School

Transition Garden Project

The Transition Garden Project is dedicated to providing transition age (18-21) special education students the opportunity to build work skills, ethic, and learn agricultural education.  The grant will assist in providing a greenhouse that will allow the production capacity to be a viable supplier to Springfield Public Schools food service program.  The addition of the greenhouse will provide for year round work experience and food production. 

 

 

Brookings-Harbor School District

Brooking-Harbor School Spirit and Supply Store 

This student store will be located on campus at Brooking-Harbor High School and will sell school supplies along with other school-spirit items.  This project will assist students an opportunity to learn valuable employment related skills such as money management, marketing, inventory control, and retail sales.  This school based business will also partner with the booster club and YTP program to supports students with disabilities working with their non-disabled peers to support student cooperation, inclusion, and acceptance. 

 

 

High Desert ESD

Conversational Transitional Planning Tools

This program will be used in providing an online training focusing on Conversational Planning for students who lack skills in the areas of time management, prioritizing, starting and finishing, evaluating work progress, and overall lack of ability in the area of judgment and decision making (executive functions).  This will assist the student in developing a person centered plan and help to increase their awareness about themselves, their potential, and limitations using a non-confrontational conversational approach. 

 

 

 

Rainer School District

School-based Businesses- balloons, greeting cards, jewelry, and dog soap-making. 

This newly established YTP site is interested in growing a developing school based business program.  This program provides vocational training to help students design, build, sell, and deliver products at school and to local neighborhood businesses.   This program will help students with disabilities to develop vocational skills and increase their self-esteem.
